The perfect special breakfast or even a sweet snack at the end of a long day is this homemade chocolate chip banana bread.

In our house I’m always looking for ways to use up the food we buy to make sure we have as little waste as possible. Every now and then there will be a few bananas turning brown in the fruit basket, which gives me the perfect opportunity to make banana bread. We also enjoy banana muffins or cookies as other great options to use up those extra ripe bananas. For us, dark chocolate chips are the go to addition to delicious banana bread. A classic addition would be walnuts or pecans, as well.
Homemade Chocolate Chip Banana Bread Ingredients
Banana bread is one of those things that requires very few ingredients and most of them are household staples. You’ll need flour, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla/almond extract, butter, eggs, dark chocolate chips, and, of course, very ripe bananas. As well as, any other additional add-ins like nuts or dried fruit, that would make this homemade banana bread special for you and your family.

Method
Simply add all of the ingredients to a bowl, except for the chocolate chips or any other add ins, and mix together until smooth. Fold in any add ins like chocolate chips, nuts, coconut flakes, peanut butter chips, etc. Be careful not to over mix at this point. Then simply pour into prepared dish and bake.

This easy homemade chocolate chip banana bread is best enjoyed fresh out the oven. Store any leftovers in an airtight container or by wrapping with plastic wrap or beeswax. You can always warm up a leftover slice before enjoying by popping it in the microwave for about 15 seconds. For a dessert option, it is delicious topped with some vanilla ice cream! I hope you love this recipe as much as we do!
